Strategy Overview
Highlights
  • Employs a "growth-at-a-reasonable-price" philosophy, seeking to invest in stocks with strong growth potential at reasonable valuations.
  • Invests in mid-cap stocks, which have historically offered greater growth potential than large-cap stocks and greater liquidity than small-cap stocks.
  • Maintains a relatively low P/E ratio, investing in companies with earnings that will be able to support their stock prices, which proves especially important in the face of market uncertainty.
Process & Philosophy

Cadence employs a "growth-at-a-reasonable-price" philosophy, seeking to invest in stocks with strong growth potential and fair market value. This allows the firm to access both the potential of growth stocks and the stability of value stocks.

  • Quantitative screening-Apply a systematic selection screen to stocks with the market capitalization spectrum of the Russell Mid Cap Index. Each stock is ranked by growth and price considerations.
  • Qualitative research-Identify stocks with the most favorable profiles and subject these to in-depth research.
  • Make investment decisions-Select the securities that offer the best combination of promising growth potential and fair pricing. Continually monitor and analyze the list of opportunities for additional buy candidates.
  • Apply rigid sell discipline-Sell holdings when a security shows declining earnings expectations or announces a negative earnings surprise. Holdings are also sold when a security reaches excessive relative valuations or when a better investment idea is discovered.
Why Invest in this Strategy

Breeding Tomorrow's Leaders

Mid-cap stocks offer investors an attractive opportunity to add diversification to their portfolio, as well as invest in the breeding ground for tomorrow's large-cap leaders. Mid-cap stocks offer dynamic growth potential as they are more nimble than larger firms, while tending to have longer histories of success than small-cap companies.

Experienced Management

Cadence Mid-Cap Portfolios are managed by William Bannick and Robert Fitzpatrick. William Bannick is Managing Director of Cadence Capital Management. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and received his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and M.B.A. from Boston University. Robert Fitzpatrick joined Cadence Capital Management in 1999 as a member of the investment team. He brings a valuable background in research and analysis to his current role as portfolio manager and Managing Director.

Growth with Value

The team utitlizes the "growth-at-a-price" philosophy. This process seeks to select mid-cap stocks that the managers believe have strong growth potential, and are reasonably priced (have lower P/Es).
