Investors should consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of this Fund carefully before investing. Please read this prospectus carefully before you invest or send money.

The daily section presents performance dating from the inception of the actual share class only.

**This is the inception date of the oldest share class, which for this Fund is the Institutional share class. The returns presented are for Class A shares, which were first offered in 10/99. Returns measure performance from the inception of the oldest share class to the present, so some returns predate the inception of Class A. Those returns are calculated by adjusting the Institutional returns to reflect the A shares' different charges and expenses. Total return performance assumes that all dividend and capital gains distributions were reinvested on the payable date and does not reflect the deduction of taxes that a shareholder would pay on fund distributions or the redemption of fund shares.

The Fund may invest in debt securities exempt from federal and California income tax. The Fund may invest 10% of its assets in high yield securities, and may at times invest in mortgage related securities. Mortgage-backed securities are subject to prepayment risk and may be sensitive to changes in prevailing interest rates. When interest rates rise, the value of fixed income securities generally declines. This Fund may use derivative instruments for hedging purposes or as part of its investment strategy. Use of these instruments may involve certain costs and risks such as liquidity risk, interest rate risk, market risk, credit risk, management risk and the risk that a fund could not close out a position when it would be most advantageous to do so. Portfolios investing in derivatives could lose more than the principal amount invested in those instruments. High-yield bonds typically have a lower credit rating than other bonds. Lower rated bonds generally involve a greater risk to principal than higher rated bonds. Shareholders of a municipal bond fund will, at times, incur a tax liability, as income from these funds may be subject to state and local taxes and, where applicable, the alternative minimum tax. A fund concentrating in a single state is subject to greater risk of adverse economic conditions and regulatory changes than a fund with broader geographical diversification. This Fund is non-diversified, which means that it may concentrate its assets in a smaller number of issuers than a diversified fund.

The Lehman Brothers CA Intermediate Municipal Bond Index is an unmanaged index composed of California Municipal Bond issues with a maturity range of 5-10 years. Unless otherwise noted, index returns reflect the reinvestment of dividends and capital gains, if any, but do not reflect fees, brokerage commissions or other expenses of investing. It is not possible to invest directly in an index.

^The Lipper Category returns and rankings are calculated by Lipper Inc., a Reuters Company, which is a nationally recognized organization that compares the performance of mutual funds with similar investment objectives. The Category returns represent the average performance of included funds, while rankings compare an individual fund's returns to those of the other funds in its category. Both are based on total return performance, with capital gains and dividends reinvested, with annual operating expenses deducted, but without including front- or back-end sales charges. Rankings begin with the actual share class inception. Rankings are relative to a peer group and do not necessarily mean that the fund had high total returns.

Growth of $10,000 and Best/Worst 1-Year Period results are calculated at NAV and assume that all dividend and capital gain distributions were reinvested. They do not take into account sales charges or the effect of taxes. Results are not indicative of future performance.

^^ This yield is calculated by annualizing the current month's distribution and dividing by the NAV on the last business day of the period. It does not include long- or short-term capital gains distributions. The SEC Yield is a standardized annual yield based on the most recent 30-day period. It is calculated in accordance with current Securities and Exchange Commission regulations and is subject to change.
